volcom pipe pro 2012

Day One of the Volcom Pipe Pro Canceled after the first seven rounds of surfing. The contest only ran for about 3 hours this morning. These professional surfers did not want to even go out because the waves were unridable! The waves today were as big as 20 feet. The crowd watching were washed out by massive amounts of water as well as taking out a few camera crews that were setup on the beach. I watched people run towards the waters edge, trying to snatch belongings that were flushed out to sea by the oncoming sets, racing the next swell about to washout on the shore. Stephen Koehne from Kauai, not only got the best wave of the day with a 8.00 he also ended up with the worst injury too. Stephan was carried all the way up the beach bleeding along the way. Stephan will not longer be surfing in the contest and it doesn’t look like he will be walking anytime soon either. What a way to start the Volcom Pipe Pro!
